Strategic Government Relations
The idea of the ‘Stakeholder Economy,’ which Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum (WEF) brought into circulation and continue to popularize, describes a reality quite emblematic of the context of strategic government relations.
Its central assumption is that not only the prosperity of every business company over time is tributary to the company’s positive contribution to society, but also there should be a mutual benefit between the companies and all their stakeholders, including employees, customers, the community in which they operate, and institutional actors that regulate business.
In the age of a Stakeholder Economy, it is essential for businesses and organizations to have or develop a sharp understanding of the political and regulatory environment that shapes them.
As a specific tool under Public Relations, the role of Government Relations is to help an organization communicate, interact, and constructively engage in dialogue with the government, legislators, interest groups, and the media. Therefore, building useful relationships between businesses and the Public Sector, including government and legislators, is a critical resource.
For effective, strategic government relations, the interests to be advocated and the outcomes pursued need to be clearly defined.
“We staunchly represent your business interests, deliver you direct access to local, national, international, and foreign decision-makers, favorably shape their perception on the issues of interest to your organization, raise awareness, build strategic partnerships, and help you be ahead of the curve.”
Luxburry Strategies Inc. has both a nationally and internationally focused scope for government relations. Our clients are business enterprises, Civil Society organizations, local authorities, and foreign governments.
We provide targeted, results-oriented lobbying and government relations services and help you create strategic advocacy plans that maximize your organization’s strengths and capabilities and prepare you to be influential and heard by your audience of interest.
Depending on the nature of your request, we can advocate for your organization’s interests in two approaches:
- The Lobbying Approach
- The Public Relations Approach
We help develop goals and effective advocacy strategies and provide the ongoing support needed by the client to accomplish those goals.
By cultivating and managing strategic partnerships and coalitions, we help our clients and partners at all scales (local, national, and international) bring ideas and requests to the right decision-makers.
The public relations strategies that we develop and implement are tailored to the needs and objectives of the clients; they can include the creation of a favorable institutional environment, the representation of interests, awareness-raising, or setting up a network of allies.
In broad brushes, Luxburry Strategies Inc uses three strategic instruments in delivering government relations advisory:
- Institutional Monitoring
- Targeted Influence Strategies
- Support for Public Grant and Access
Our Lobbying Aproach
We select one or two targets (e.g., policymakers, legislators, political leaders, cabinet members, C-suite executive of a parastatal) from our client’s audience of interest (e.g., government, parliament, parastatals) and conduct direct lobbying on behalf of the client’s interests based on a solid argumentation that is, however, aligned with the political context and the public agenda. The results can immediately manifest themselves in the near term.
Our Public Relations Approach
The strategy is set for the long term. It consists in building network relationships with the parties involved in the interest of our client or simply mobilizing our existing networks to create formal or informal contact with those parties. The intent is to progressively shape their perception of a specific issue through persuasive communication.
